Expert Shower Pan Installation that will not leak.
ARVADA SHOWER PAN INSTALLATION COMPANY
There are many design options when it comes to tiling your shower pan and/or bathroom remodel project.
A tile shower pan offers more versatility and the options for tile installation are endless.
Tile shower pans are unique and can reflect the homeowners' desire to insert art into their shower and complement the work of the tile installer setting tile on the shower walls, niches, and shower benches.
In these examples, the 2 showers with 12x24 large format tiles are porcelain tiles manufactured to look like marble tile. Porcelain has become so popular because of its durability and ease of maintenance.
The marble subway tile and porcelain wall tile is priced for a very affordable budget.
All of our shower installations feature natural stone tiles or porcelain tile for the shower pans.

The shower pan is tiled with a natural stone marble tile | Arvada Tile Shower PanThe shower is tiled with a hand made ceramic tile imported from Spain and features a recessed shampoo niche tiled with the same tile that was installed for the shower walls. | Linear Drain InstallersThe linear drain was placed away from the wall because of structural issues. Ideally the linear drain should be placed against the valve wall so that larger format tiles could be installed and your not limited to size restraints. However it is a great selection of marble sheet tile. |

Marble Tile Shower PanMarble tile is regaining in popularity! More and more of our shower tile installation projects are including marble tile. The marble tile installation is being installed on the shower pan floors more and more. And no wonder, because natural stone adds to the warmth and depth of a variety of bathroom remodeling jobs. The marble subway tile is sealed with 3 coats of penetrating sealer for added protection of the marble finish. The shower curb is tiled with porcelain tile and the metal edge finish | Large Panel Porcelain Tile ShowerThe shower wall surface is tiled with large porcelain tile panels and adds or compliments the much smaller marble subway tile which adds texture to the shower design that only a natural stone would enhance. Large porcelain tile panels have become very popular in residential bath remodel projects and is trending increasingly upward. | Arvada Shower Pan CompanyAs pictured porcelain tile in new and remodel shower installations has grown continually for the past few years and it looks like that trend will continue. Porcelain tile in general is the #1 tile being installed in a variety of applications because of it's durable qualities and low maintenance of care especially in wet areas and areas with heavy foot traffic. Porcelain tiles are manufactured in various sizes, shapes and textures and are an ideal choice for showers bathrooms kitchens and floors. |
A Schluter-Kerdi linear drain is installed to a concrete slab where rough in plumbing was already for the drain.
A mud slurry is applied to the concrete and the cement is poured and troweled to allow for a 1/4" slope per ft. to the drain.
Once the cement has fully cured for a minimum of 72 hours the waterproofing membrane can be installed over the cement shower pan.
Large format porcelain tile can be installed because of the linear drain. The slope is on the same plane with one angle toward the drain and eliminates the contour to a standard drain.
The homeowner on this project requested a curbless shower entrance. This would involved moving the drain located in the center of the shower towards the back wall of the shower.
After breaking out 4" of concrete we cut the existing pipe and redirect the drain towards the back wall. When adding a no curb shower we recommend installing a Schluter in-line drain so that the drainage will go in one direction.
The walk-in shower with the in-line drain makes it possible to install the same bathroom floor tile into the shower for a seamless tile installation.
This is a classic tile installation with white ceramic subway tile and recessed shampoo niche installed on shower walls and octagon porcelain tile installed on bathroom floor and shower pan. The in-line drain is tileable and virtually invisible.
5 STEPS FOR A NEW SHOWER PAN INSTALLATION
-
Step #1 PLUMBING/Shower Drain - The gallery above features 2 new shower pan installations roll one is over a concrete and roll 3 is over a wood subfloor. The 2nd roll of pictures is a shower pan replacement. The first step in a shower pan installation is installing the correct shower drain and /or the drain of choice such as a linear shower drain and getting the shower drain in the right location. In the example of the new shower pan installation, the rough-in plumbing has already been done. As the 2nd roll of pictures shows most shower pan replacements need to change out the old cast iron pipes for a new ABS or PVC p-trap or stub out.
-
Step #2 CEMENT POUR/Shower Pans - We cement pour (dry pack deck mud) all of our shower pan installations. With 40 years of shower pan installation experience, we know what works best for the longest-lasting water containment system and what type of shower pan bases to stay away from. For example, foam tray shower pan inserts that can be tiled over have become quite popular for the DIY'er or house flipper however after some years of use the foam tray starts to compress leading to shower pan leaks and/or loose tile and cracking grout. We believe your shower pan installation should last until you decide to update your shower again. Cement-poured shower pans work when the correct waterproofing membrane is properly installed. We recommend top-quality membranes like Laticrete Hydroment and Schluter-Kerdi. Our shower pan installation service offers walk-in showers built with shower curbs or no shower curbs and roll-in shower pan installations. ADA compliant showers built

Step #3 WATERPROOFING - This is the most critical step in the process that we have covered thus far. And this is where most shower pan installations fail. One reason for most failures from the many shower pan repairs and shower pan replacements that we have done is from the rubber or vinyl shower liners installed under the cement. A critical mistake seen is the plugging up of the weep holes. This leads to numerous problems. Some problems are noticed immediately other problems are noticed only after months some after years of use. Besides the most common problem of a water leak, there is also evidence of cracked tiles and crumbling grout, efflorescence and loose tiles, and extreme mold growth, all due to plugged weep holes. All waterproofing systems incorrectly installed will have its failure. We can say we have just about seen it all in 40 years of installing, repairing, and replacing shower pans.
-
Step #4 TILE INSTALLATION - Everything being said this final step seals the deal. After all steps 1 - 3 can be done to the Tee but if the tile installation is not up to par it will leave the homeowner wondering if it was all worth it. A tile shower pan installation will last a very long time when installed correctly. Tile adds to the beauty and value of your home and bathroom renovation update. Tile has been the top choice for thousands of years and remnants of past tile installations are still evident today!
